We’re trying something new on the online market! Starting this week (should be up and running by tomorrow), be sure to click the “Auction Items” button (it’s the first option under “Categories” on the market page). We’ll be auctioning off an item handcrafted by one of our market artisans each month! You can find more details on the item listing. All proceeds will go towards funding the Independence Farmers Market.

Upcoming Events:

This Friday, June 2nd, is the Rooted in Appalachia Roadshow. The Rooted in Appalachia Roadshow is free and open to the public and will feature food tasting by Sharon Rice of the Virginia extension service, give aways, educational materials and a chance to register to win a gas grill at the end of the show season, complements of ASD and Lowes Home Improvement. .
Created to build a vibrant local food culture by deepening the connections between local farmers, consumers, restaurants and retailers; Rooted in Appalachia Roadshows are traveling to 21 farmers markets across the region. For a complete list, visit: http://rootedinappalachia.com/request-information/.

The First Friday Film Series, hosted by Grayson LandCare & The Church of the Good Shepherd brings documentary films to the public, complete with popcorn and panel discussions afterwards.

With poignancy and unexpected humor, A Will for the Woods portrays the last days of a multifaceted advocate – and one community’s role in the genesis of a revolutionary movement. As the film follows Clark’s dream of leaving a legacy in harmony with timeless cycles, environmentalism takes on a profound intimacy.

The Center for Diversity and Common Ground will be holding a large yard sale this Saturday, June 3rd at 101 E. Stuart Drive in Galax. The yard sale will run from 7:30 am- until. All proceeds will go to The Center for Diversity and Common Ground.
