And here are some answers:
Will I have to buy vegetables I don't want?
Unlike some co-ops, buying clubs, or CSAs where everyone gets the same box of stuff (and you don’t know what you’re getting until you get it), with the online market you get to order what you want, in the quantities that you want, from the farms that you want. The weekly email lists the produce, milled products, fresh flowers, and artisan goods available that week, and you can browse the items on this website before you place your order.
How do I order?
Registered customers receive an email each Wednesday evening when the market opens. Customers must place their order for the week no later than Monday 8 p.m. Orders can be placed here on our website</a. When you’ve found an item you want to order, just add the amount in the box next to “add to cart” and click on the shopping cart icon. Your cart will appear at the top of the page. When you are finished shopping, click ”proceed to checkout”. Is where you’ll see your order and can change it. Then click the “place this order button” in the box that says PAY LATER. You’ll actually pay for your order when you pick it up. Come to the Grayson LandCare/IFM office at 104 Courthouse Street Wednesday any time between 4-6 pm. That’s when you’ll pay for your order. We accept credit cards, cash, and checks and you can use gift certificates, Senior Farmers Market coupons and SNAP/EBT benefits. We also offer up to a $30 match to be used to purchase fruits, vegetables, and seeds when you use SNAP/EBT. Please note that “cottage law products” (baked goods, preserves) require payment in the office. I hope you’ll give it a try. There’s lots of delicious local food and other great items available from your favorite Farmers Market vendors.
When do I pay?
We accept credit card payments at the time you place your order or cash or check at pickup. If you prefer, you can also send a check made to the Independence Farmers Market and we can load that amount into an account for you. SNAP is still welcome and we continue to offer the match, please contact Michelle for assistance using SNAP. 276-768-059
When and Where do I pick up my order?
From 4-6 pm on Wednesdays pick-up your order in the IFM/Grayson Landcare Office (104 Courthouse Drive, Independence, VA 24348). Thanks for your continued support of the On-line Market.
Why Support Locally Grown?
Enhance your local economy: By purchasing produce and other items from local growers you are providing stability to your local economy through the support of local businesses.
Save natural resources: Buying locally makes you an invaluable link in the process of saving resources such as fossil fuels and packaging materials. Also, we are right here in your community so the expense of transportation and delivery is kept to a minimum.
Provide learning opportunities: Locally Grown supporters provide member growers the means to help educate our community about the importance of sustainable agriculture.
Supporting a way of life: The number of small farms in the United States has decreased dramatically in the last decade. Please help us preserve an honest and worthy means of making a living.
We believe that small, diverse, family-owned farms contribute to society’s overall health.
