A variety of handmade brooms that are fully functional and true to the Appalachian heritage of Grayson County. Each broom is handcrafted using tools that are over a hundred years old.

Broom corn is the material used. This year we will be growing broom corn at a local historical farm.

In the old days, my Aunt Draper would break a straw off the broom and stick it in the cake or bread she was baking. If it came out clean it was done, if it came out with dough sticking to it, it was not done. We use broom corn to make these very useful cake testers. The woven handle is made with the stalks of the broom corn plant. We make these in our broom shop on Pine Mountain in Grayson County. We know you will enjoy them. They make great gifts or additions to a gift basket.

The vegetable scrubber is perfect for cleaning up those freshly dug potatoes, beets, and more. And, when you go to silk that corn the soft end will sweep it right off. This little specialty broom has been handed down thru the generations. I learned of this broom from a grandmother who made them in the Blue Ridge Mountains in the 1960s.
